preconceptions

Everyone seems to have preconceived ideas about people, places and things of that information has been exposed or often based on the point of view of our immediate environment. In youth football, I can not count the number of times I was pleasantly surprised by the game and the actions of teams and coaches. Very often, the reputation of these teams and coaches Pee Wee is a product of others, that the total frustrationthe greed of other young coaches, other than sour grapes. Unfortunately in the world of youth football coaches, these perceptions and attitudes are very common, widespread and often misunderstood.

Have an open mind

When Pee Wee football coach, I try to get into these situations with an open mind and a sweet heart and let the other team coaches and prove me wrong. One of the coaches most hated and misunderstood in two different leagues my teamsparticipated, in fact, has become a trusted friend and confidant. Does your organization out of their way to treat us well, and we turn from our way of doing the same for them. Now, our organizations have a strong rivalry, but friendly and we hope to play together every year for the right reasons. We heard the same thing if we listen to others and entered the game with a foot in the water? Probably not.

big mistake

Unfortunately I alsosuccumbing to make judgments about people who know little and in many cases, these cases are 100% wrong. I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Rick Neuheisel at UCLA last weekend at the Clinic of Champions

Reno, Nevada. Coach Neuheisel made a strong presentation in the form of two-minute offense and drilling is like UCLA this fall. I knew the coach of his days in Colorado, the Buffaloes have been a big game, when my beloved Cornhuskers outcalendar. Of course, the coach of the West Coast Neuheisel Orthodox attitude "Outward Bound diametrically opposite to that of Nebraska No-nonsense, blue collar, the attitude of physical ground attack. The bus was not a man much loved in these parts, the character West Coast passing attack pen pal, etc. Then came the controversial figure at the University of Washington with a NCAA Hoops tournament, a pool, Advertising worse. For some reason, when there is nobody here knew that the boy was known as "Skippy"Nebraska fans and the general nature seemed ridiculous man in the newspapers, radio and fan in everyday conversation.

If you can not be pushed too far to spend some time with someone, you can get a sense for That person in my opinion. Coach Neuheisel began his presentation with a background, not to mention his college records 1966-1930 as head coach or the league, said some of the moments of humiliation that he had as a player andthat may be associated with our teams and children. I do not know the coach at UCLA as the fourth walking far below what was considered the number of 24X as a freshman. X meant a double number, and probably should never be in place and go to a game. Number 24 on how the year was Freeman McNeil, of course, I do not think I would take the bus number in the field. In those days redshirt freshman at UCLA. Fortunately for the coach, one of the other rookies have to stop longing and Coachplayers to get that number, No. 20. No coach has ever been in the game program this year, says the other guy so late that coach was known as N. 20 original name, not yours, such as game programs are already printed.

UCLA coach Neueheisel

As the season progressed, UCLA was a very poor season and the coaches have tried to get a spark on special teams. The coaches an opportunity for anyone willing to play special teams. The coach offered to Ngame and to his surprise, the UCLA coaches assigned to the punt return team, where his job was to block L4 in a block type of trap. In a little over 195 pounds had to coach other teams block linebackers weighing 230-250 running at full speed with malice in their hearts in their coverage of recovery teams. The coach has had a series of stories to tell depreciation of himself in one of them was knocked unconscious and broke his mask during one of these statements. I do not want the roadboast, but to investigate and do some 'self-mockery. The quarterback playing special teams as a block designated impressed me. He never mentioned his victory in the Rose Bowl or Rose Bowl MVP awards UCLA, none of this.

In the mixer after the sessions manager Suite Neuheisel was not different from what I imagined. He was shy, friendly, not at all outgoing, friendly, very humble and willing to offer help and advice to people interviewed, even for a humble Pee Weefootball coach like me. His way of offering support and appreciation for what they do for youth football coaches. He looked into her eyes, shook hands and listened carefully to what he was saying, ask questions and seek clarification grand manner. I left this experience with a very different view of the coach Neuheisel. He had nothing to gain time with a young coach of Nebraska, none of my childrenrecruited by UCLA and I am certainly not the views of donors to UCLA.

Lesson Learned

When I returned to my room, I felt a bit 'ashamed for judging someone so badly without the benefit more information or personal experience. I hope I learned my lesson, because if my injury was so bad and often at odds with the way I want my children or their players to act. I had the same experience as High School Coach Steve Caland Pennsylvania, was200% wrong about him too and now we are friends. My opinion has changed after they are finally in a coaching clinic in Pennsylvania in 2002. The moral of this story is to make its decisions on people, including players, coaches and parents youth football. Keep an open mind and that may surprise you.

I was at the other end of situations myself. I can not count the number of children sometimes came to me after a clinic and told me that while they were waitinghear me say, I have been very different (in a seat) than expected. I am not a victory at all costs Pee Wee football coach in any way. Our hypothesis is this: you can win, entertainment, children's games, had great sport and great to teach the basics too, are not mutually exclusive goals.
